I have been celebrating the publication of And I Hear Dragons with a series of schools workshops at Penarth Library (my local and very brilliant library). Pupils from Fairfield, Victoria and St Joseph's Primary Schools joined me for full class creative writing workshops. As you can see from my rather massive smile (below, with pupils from Fairfield Primary School) we had a great time together.
Sessions started with me performing a small selection of poems from the collection and with a discussion about the writing process, performing poetry, and how anthologies are put together. We then explored some more of the poems in greater detail and wrote our own versions of the poems. We thought about rhyme and imagery and made a start on some fantastic pieces of writing.
I'm taking bookings for this workshop at the moment. It's a great way to celebrate Welsh identity and introduce poetry and creative writing to KS2 pupils. I can throw in lots of Welsh too. I currently have good availability for the first week of March 2025 which would allow us to celebrate St David's Day and World Book Day in one fell swoop!
These workshops were made possible thanks to generous support from Literature Wales' Inspiring Communities Fund.
