We Are Wales

I thought I'd share this poem in case it's useful for schools based in Wales that are exploring 'Cynefin'. It works well in group performance thanks to its strict rhythm and simple language. It lends itself well to group actions that pupils could maybe choreograoh themselves - for example pupils could stamp on each phrase of the first line, indicate change and growth (third line) with their hands, and air punch (and perhaps raise the volume!) on 'Cymru am byth' (fourth line). Lines can be spoken by individuals or in unison and there are plenty of moments for releasing a bit of passion and sports crowd energy!

If you use this in an assembly or classroom I'd love to know (I'd be happy to comment on any video performances you have). If you'd like a pdf that the students could illustrate then just drop me an email and I'll send one over.

We are Wales

We are Wales, we are Wales, Cymru ydyn ni

A land of song and tradition, rich with history

Our blood runs with stories, with legend and myth

But we change and we grow, Cymru am byth!

Wales is more than its past, it’s also who we are now

And we have arms that open wide, that say croeso mawr

Feet that keep the beat of the match day crowd

Voices that harmonise, united and proud

We have heads full of red as we cheer for CYMRU

Eyes focused on the future and who we can be

We are Wales, we are Wales, Cymru ydyn ni!
